Centrally located near Carnegie Hall, Broadway theaters, restaurants and all transportation, Carnegie House allows pets and offers a live-in super, 24-hour concierge and central laundry, although washers and dryers are allowed in individual apartments with board approval. There is a garage in the building with a monthly discount for owners. This large apartment house, which occupies the west blockfront from 56th to 57th Street with its entrance in the middle of the avenue frontage, was built in 1962 and converted to a cooperative in 1978. The building, which has a facade of three shades of gray brick, has a prime, central location in the Plaza District very close to Central Park and in the midst of many famous theme restaurants such as Planet Hollywood, the Motown Cafe and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Convenient to subways and buses, the 21-story, 320-unit building has an impressive large marquee entrance and spacious lobby and a garage on 56th Street. Unlike many midtown residential properties, it is across the street from a supermarket and within short walking distance of the Museum of Modern Art and Rockefeller Center and Carnegie Hall, after which it was named.
